Paid for by: ELIZABETH HAUPTMAN FOR LIVINGSTON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
“I’m Elizabeth Hauptman, and I’m running for Livingston County Commissioner, District 8. I’m not just here as a candidate, but as a mother, a community member, and someone who cares deeply about the future of Livingston County. I’ve lived here with my family for 15 years, and I’m committed to securing a brighter future for our seniors, families, and future generations. Shortly after having my son, I started a free Moms and caregivers' group, which allowed me to meet wonderful members of this community and spend many days in our beautiful green spaces. Now, my son swims for Brighton, and I work with a nonprofit dedicated to fighting for clean air and water, ensuring our children can live healthier, safer lives.
As a “Mom-partisan” candidate, I’m running for County Commissioner because I believe that protecting our families and our community transcends party politics. After knocking on over 3,800 doors, I’ve heard the same concerns echoed by so many of you. Our community deserves fair, thoughtful, community-driven problem-solving when it comes to our county's issues. It’s about finding common-sense solutions that benefit us all. As we face these challenges, I stand by three core principles: cooperation, conservation, and common sense.
Cooperation:
Let’s start with cooperation. Our county faces complex issues that affect all of us, and the solutions won’t come from one party or one person. They’ll come from working together—across political divides—to create practical, effective solutions that move us forward as a community. I am committed to partnering with individuals from all political backgrounds to bring about the kind of governance we need: one that is transparent, accountable, and serves all people. Together, we will ensure that decisions made in our county reflect the diverse voices that make up Livingston County.
Conservation:
Next, conservation. Our environment isn’t just an abstract concept; it directly affects our quality of life, health, and property-values. We need more testing and cleanup of PFAS to ensure that our water is safe to drink, and our fish are safe to eat. It’s unacceptable that our families should have to worry about these essential resources. I will also work to secure additional flood mitigation grants to address the flooding issues that have devastated so many families' lives, homes and properties in recent years. While county commissioners don’t have direct control over zoning, I will advocate for careful planning and smart growth that reflects the values of our community. It’s crucial that we preserve the tranquility of our outdoor spaces—our fishing and hunting spots, hiking trails, and community areas—while promoting development that enhances, rather than detracts from, our way of life.
Common Sense:
Finally, common sense. Investing in our local infrastructure is a no-brainer. From our roads and bridges to critical repairs like those needed for the Brighton Lake Dam, it’s time we focus on upgrading and maintaining these vital components of our county. I believe we can do more to broaden access and services, such as enhancing our public transportation system with LETS and creating safe bike paths for recreation and commuting. Moreover, I am focused on securing additional funds that are already available to us through ARPA and the IRA to improve the county. These are tax dollars we’ve already paid, and we should use them to invest in the future of Livingston County. Whether it’s making additional upgrades to broadband access or creating better services for our seniors, we can use these funds wisely to help our community flourish.
Conclusion:
So, why am I running? Because Livingston County deserves leadership that is grounded in cooperation, conservation, and common sense. As a “Mom-partisan” candidate, I believe we can make our community stronger, safer, and more vibrant—not just for today, but for the generations to come. Let’s embrace our opportunities, protect our values, and build a future we can all be proud of. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you, earning your vote, and continuing these important conversations. Please visit Vote4Hauptman.com for more information.
